Updates for November 2024

November - The new sapping season starts in late winter; typically from mid-March to mid-April in most maple-syrup producing areas, when temperatures are below freezing at night and above freezing during the day. Tours usually begin in early Spring! That's a great time to visit a maple sugar orchard or sugarworks and see a sugaring demonstration; watch them make maple syrup!

Where are Maple Syrup farms/orchards/sugarworks, etc.? Well, they're not in Hawaii or Florida, for sure. They are concentrated in the northeast and upper midwest in the US and the eastern half of Canada, even though maple trees do grow in the northwest. That's why the areas below (in states outside of the Northeast and Midwest) have no listings! Although, there is research to develop trees that can produce sap/syrup in warmed climates.

  MAPLE SYRUP FESTIVAL: Make maple sugar and syrup, watch a tree being tapped and learn about this tradition and stop by the Sugar Shack to taste the maple syrup. March 23, 2024, 1-rpm. $6. Register for staggered start times.
  LAURA INGALLS MAPLE SYRUPING: Listen to stories about Laura Ingalls tapping trees in the Big Woods. Then try it for yourself. Dress for messy, outdoor weather. Registration required. March 30, 2024, 1:30-2:30pm. $6/pp.
• Minnesota Landscape Arboretum -
  MacMillan Auditorium in the Oswald Visitor Center, 3675 Arboretum Drive, Chaska, MN 55318
  MAPLEFEST at the MINNESOTA LANDSCAPE ARBORETUM includes an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast (with fresh maple syrup, of course) and, for Arb members, admission to the arboretum. Reservations required. March 23, 2024. Tickets $23/adult, $18/ages 11-15 and members, and $13/ages 3-10.
